This area includes one of the largest and most pristine tracts of wilderness in the Midwest – the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The area encompasses a large part of the Superior National Forest, which includes more than 2,000 lakes and 2,200 miles of streams within a beautiful boreal forest. Finally, Eagle Mountain, the highest point in Minnesota, falls within this geography as well.
The conservation area features a number of species, including the enigmatic Canada Lynx, boreal owls, and iconic species like black bears and gray wolves.
